Injustice, Grace, Gospel or None of the Above?

October 15, 2010

What goes through your mind after you read a report about a plea deal for Guantanamo Bay terrorist/prisoner who may get a mere eight years for killing an Army special forces medic and maiming another man, Army Sgt. Layne Morris?

What does the Gospel and the whole of the Scriptures have to say about such a possible outcome?  Should the government contemplate giving him mercy?  Or is that a matter for God to determine? How is God’s justice and mercy best expressed here?  And does the age of the alleged assailant have bearing on the matter?
