Awash in the Grace of God, 2

January 14, 2011

Trying to get ahold of how gracious God is to the sinner (me) is a constant challenge. The Bible is full of examples of the recipients; we just have to be more cognizant of them:

Mention the name [Abraham] and folks conjure up kind, grandfatherly images or think of a sort of Jimmy Stewart of the Bible, a genial, kindly, well-disposed sort of chap. But Joshua 24:2-3 knocks that on the head: ‘They [the ‘they’ includes Abraham] served other gods.’ So why does Yahweh call Abraham? Why Abraham the sinner, Abraham the pagan, Abraham the idolater? We are beyond the range of reason and awash in grace in this one.
