God at Work

February 22, 2011

A very good reminder when we think the culture has “gone to pot” or some such thing:

“One cannot read Daniel 1 attentively without noticing these three distinct theological notes, these three ‘gave’ statements [1:2, 9, 17]. And yet one has to say that in this context the Lord’s ‘giving’ has a subversive or undercover ring to it. The story begins with the dominance of a Babylonian victory and continues under the prevalence of a Babylonian culture – and yet inside all that political power and cultural saturation the God of Israel is quietly, unobtrusively, at work. And we shouldn’t miss it.”
